Proposal for the redesign of the Privately Owned Public Space located at 425 Fifth Avenue.
dRIFT is the result of a study of the ideas or urban planner, Le Corbusier, an exploration of the language, shape and style of chalk sticks, and a deep analysis of the present day Privately Owned Public Space lcoated on 425 Fifth Avenue.
The shape being a response to the soulless and restless public spaces that Le Corbusier often criticizes. The chalk stick form relates to these criticism by creating a system that allows for a variety of program and can be prescribed for certain use of left for exploration.
*primary analysis of the Privately Owned Public Space
*found forms adjacent to stairs, gradient and seating
*discovering possible forms, looking at how chalk sticks snap and carve
*photomontages allow for easy iteration of scale and placement
*this specific photomontage was extremely influential in the design direction
*how do people interact with these forms?
*incorperating the program, ammenities and necessities into the cylinders, rather than leaving them seperate
